2024 NNA Human Trafficking: Beyond the Basics

10/1/2024 - 10/31/2024

Description

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for the NNA Human Trafficking: Beyond the Basics On-Demand activity!

NNA invites you to take an extraordinary dive into the dark world of human trafficking, going beyond statistics to look at the purveyors, the buyers and most importantly, the victims.

The NNA Human Trafficking: Beyond the Basics event will be a virtual, on-demand program. On-demand content will be available for viewing from October 1 through October 31, 2024.

The on-demand modules will explore they “whys” behind human trafficking, including a fascinating look at trauma response, the changes that occur in victim’s brains, and why it is so difficult for victims to break free.

Heidi Olson, founder and president of Paradigm Shift training and consulting, LLC also examines the missed opportunities for healthcare workers who come into contact with these victims, the barriers to identification and best practices for building rapport, a necessary first step when offering support and resources.

Learn more about the shadowy figures behind trafficking and how they recruit victims, the survival responses of fight, flight, freeze and fawn, the common myths about victims and buyers, and new trends in trafficking such as the roles of AI, deepfakes and OnlyFans. Explore novel strategies to help victims, including details from SANE nurse Rebecca Finke of an innovative new victim advocacy program at AdventHealth in Kansas, the first of its kind in the U.S.

Heidi also hosts two remarkable interviews from the polar opposites of human trafficking. Gloria Masters, survivor and author of Taking the Shame Back, will talk about how she was coerced into trafficking through generational trauma and sexual abuse, the physical and mental health consequences as an adolescent, the long term effects even after breaking away, and her current work as a survivor.

Another interview looks at the demand side of trafficking, the motivations that influence sex buyers and fuel the business. Former sex buyer Neil Getzlow’s story is both disturbing and encouraging, examining his journey through sex buying and the profound effects it had on his life and family.

Please join us for the NNA Human Trafficking: Beyond the Basics On Demand activity to go beyond the basics of human trafficking for insights and strategies to help from the healthcare perspective!
